The Scientific Symposium “40 Years since the Sarajevo Trial of 1983 – Historical, Legal, Political and Media Aspects of the Staged Trial of Bosniak Intellectuals” Held in Tuzla
On Thursday, November 16, 2023, the Scientific Symposium “40 YEARS SINCE THE SARAJEVO TRIAL OF 1983 – Historical, Legal, Political and Media Aspects of the Staged Trial of Bosniak Intellectuals” was successfully held in the congress hall of Hotel Mellain in Tuzla.
The symposium was organized by the Alija Izetbegović Foundation and the Faculty of Law of the University of Tuzla, under the auspices of the Vice-President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Refik Lendo, and on the occasion of marking the 40th anniversary of the “Sarajevo Trial” and the 20th anniversary of the death of President Alija Izetbegović.
At the start of the Symposium, the opening remarks were given on behalf of the organizers by Dean Prof. Dr. Amir Karić (Faculty of Law of the University of Tuzla) and Prof. Dr. Fahrudin Rizvanbegović (Alija Izetbegović Foundation).
The symposium was very well attended and the visitors had the opportunity to listen to excellent presentations and learn many facts that were not known to the public, concerning the historical and political context of the Trial, its causes and the very experience of the convicted and witnesses in the Trial who shared their life stories, the course of the Trial and the atmosphere that prevailed in society at that time, with the attendees during the Symposium.
The presentations were given by: Prof. Dr. Amir Duranović (Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo), Safet Bandžović, PhD (Institute of History, University of Sarajevo), Senija Milišić, PhD (Institute of History, University of Sarajevo), Prof. Dr. Ajdin Huseinspahić (Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica), Prof. Dr. Selmo Cikotić (Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Sarajevo), Faris Nanić, Fikret Muslimović, Mustafa Spahić, Edhem Bičakčić, Đula Maglajlija, Nermina Baljević and Sabina Berberović.
In the following period, the proceedings from the Symposium, as well as the bibliography on the “Sarajevo Trial” will be published, and the complete video recording of the Symposium and individual presentations will be available in Bosnian on the Foundation’s YouTube page.
