Paul Williams visited Sarajevo and the Alija Izetbegović Foundation

Mr Paul Williams (https://x.com/freemonotheist https://www.youtube.com/BloggingTheology ) visited Sarajevo and the Alija Izetbegović Foundation from July 28 to August 2, 2024. 

During his visit, Mr. Williams had the opportunity to visit the premises of the Foundation, which is located in the house where President Alija Izetbegović lived in the last years of his life, meet the members of the Foundation’s Board and employees, and record an interview with Prof. Dr. Selmo Cikotić and Prof. Dr. Admir Mulaosmanović. During the interview, they discussed the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, its political situation, the Genocide of Bosniaks, but also the contribution of Alija Izetbegović to the establishment of an independent and multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as his intellectual legacy, especially when it comes to topics about Islam and the state of Muslims in the world.

In the course of a few days of his stay in Sarajevo, Mr. Paul Williams toured the center and the old part of the city, visited the “Alija Izetbegović” Museum, Alija Izetbegović’s grave in Kovači, Riyasat (Headquarters) of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, talked with professors at the Faculty of Islamic Studies of the University of Sarajevo, and then, accompanied by a guide, viewed the extraordinary fund of the Gazi Husrev-bey’s library.

It was our honor to host Mr. Paul Williams in Sarajevo, introduce him to our history and culture, the work of Alija Izetbegović and the Foundation that bears his name, and we thank him for his visit and for drawing the attention of the world public to our homeland and Bosniaks as an autochthonous European Muslim people.
