Islamic Relief Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Alija Izetbegović Foundation Organized an Educational trip to Sarajevo for Youth from Eastern Bosnia

From August 12 to 14, 2024, Islamic Relief Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Alija Izetbegović Foundation organized a three-day educational visit to Sarajevo for youth from the returnee communities in eastern Bosnia.

The accommodation for youth during the trip was provided in the Center for Personal and Professional Development in Sarajevo.

During the first day of the visit, we met the young participants and talked about the work of our organizations and the program of this valuable project. After lunch at the Center, the youth listened to a lecture on the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina by Prof. Hajrudin Mešić, and then they went on a tour of the central and old part of Sarajevo accompanied by a guide.

The second day of the visit to Sarajevo was very interesting and full of activities.

The participants visited the Alija Izetbegović Foundation and talked to the daughter of Alija Izetbegović, Sabina Berberović, and watched a presentation about the life of President Izetbegović. Then they went to the Alija Izetbegović Museum and visited the “Kovači” Martyr’s Cemetery, where his grave is located.

Visits to the Tunnel of Hope and the museum exhibition “Heroes of the Liberation War” as part of the Sarajevo Memorial Center were also included.

Upon returning to the Center for Personal and Professional Development, the young participants listened to a very useful lecture and had a workshop on personal and professional development by Mr. Valdet Peštalić.

In addition to all these activities, there was still time to have ćevapi for lunch in Baščaršija!

The third day of the educational trip to Sarajevo was spent visiting the beautiful Sarajevo City Hall, followed by a visit to Riyasat of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the youth were welcomed by Medina Mehmedović Mulalić and introduced to the structure and work of the Islamic Community.

This was followed by a ride on the Trebevic cable car and a walk along Trebevic Mountain with a view of the Sarajevo panorama. The rest of the time the young participants had for walking around the city and having lunch, and getting ready to go back home.

This was the end of the three-day educational visit to Sarajevo for young people from the returnee communities of eastern Bosnia, and we hope that they learned a lot of new things and that this visit will remain in their lasting and fond memory!

We would like to thank Islamic Relief Bosnia and Herzegovina for recognizing the importance of this project and for deciding to implement it in cooperation with the Alija Izetbegović Foundation.
